Ken Forsch No-Hits the Atlanta Braves

April 7, 1979

1978 Topps # 181

Ken Forsch's mastery of the Braves that day was remarkable for a couple reasons. His no-hitter remains the earliest by date in major league history, and when you combine his effort with the one posted by his brother Bob (much less well liked by us here at Astroland), the previous April 16, the Forsches became the first brothers to each pitch no-hitters in the majors. The Herald also notes that Forsch had been a questionable starter that day because of a "swollen insect bite on his left elbow" suffered during his last outing of the spring.
