Told Sports Illustrated in 2002
that he had used steroids during
his MVP season of 1996 and for
 several seasons thereafter
Third Base

Four career inside the park home runs, but died a crackhead.
Tell me this card isn't cool==>

1 Scott Camp Card Pitcher Went 2 - 3 with a 3.97 for the '86 Asheville Tourists and 1 - 1 with a 4.39 for the same year's Osceola Astros
1 Dave Campbell Card
Infield/Outfield

We traded Tommie Agee for this guy?
74 Topps # 556--mega famous if overrated on ESPN
3 JIM CAMPBELL Cards
Catcher

Opening Day in 63
1 Mark Campbell Card Catcher Best year was his last of four, when he hit .303 for the '82 Daytona Astros, and was thus one of four on that team to hit .300, with Glenn Davis, Eric Bullock, and Ty Gainey.
1 Chris Campos Card Pitcher

3 Juan Campos Cards Pitcher

54 Casey Candaele Cards
Infield/Outfield

the BEST
2 John Cangelosi Cards
Outfield

Cangelosi is the Astros' all-time leader (minmum 500 plate appearances) in a stat I made up called "special bases," which is:
(Walks + Hit By Pitch + Stolen Bases)
minus
(2 x Caught Stealing)
all divided by
(Plate Appearances - Hits).
I was trying to come up with a stat that would quantify a player's ability to get a base for you, regardless of his ability to hit. Only 4 players (again 500 PA minimum) have had a career special bases score over .200 with the Astros: Cangelosi at .255, Jeff Bagwell, Joe Morgan, and career walk-rate leader Joe Ferguson.
4 JJ Cannon Cards
Outfield

'74 TCMA Dubuque Packers # 15 & '78 TCMA Charleston Charlies Unnumbered. Off the Astromap in the trade to the Blue Jays that got the Astros Alan Ashby, but back on it with a vengeance when he managed the 2001 Legends to the best record in minor league baseball
12 Jose Cano Cards
Pitcher

Three years in the minors, including league MVP of the Florida State League in '87,then went 1 - 1 in 6 games in '89 for Houston with a 5.09 ERA; I guess he was released or traded out of spring training in '90
7 Mike Capel Cards
Relief Pitcher

1991 Houston bullpen hand went 13 - 1 with a 2.98 ERA for the 1983 NCAA champion Texas Longhorns; teammate Roger Clemens went 13 - 5 with a 3.04
2 George Cappuzello Cards
Pitcher

Nice couple of cards here
6 Francisco Caraballo Cards Outfield
Led the 2003 Martinsville Astros in triples--and in strikeouts. Second behind Pence in homers for the 2005 Lexington Legends, and was named a South Atlantic League All-Star as a result. May have hit a ceiling at Salem in 2006, as he led the Avs in strikeouts while his slugging dropped 75 points, and his average dropped 40. Played at AA Corpus Christi in 2007
2 Brandon Caraway Cards Outfield

Led the 2002 Lexington Legends in hitting with a .304 average

2 Conrad "Randy" Cardinal Cards
Pitcher

Made six appearances with a loss for the '63 Colts, but a card appearance by his lonesome eluded him until 2003's Jewish Major Leaguers set
1 Kevin Carkeek Cards Catcher
Split the catching duties for the 2007 Tri-City ValleyCats
2 Jesse Carlson Cards Pitcher
3 - 0 with a 1.56 in 63 innings in his Astro organizational debut with the 2003 Lexington Legends, including a 36-inning scoreless streak. Didn't lose in 2004--despite a high ERA--meaning that the man has not lost in the Astros organization
7 Glenn Carpenter Cards 1st Base Up through the minors, by Glenn Carpenter
8 Chuck Carr Cards
Outfield

"Chuckie's hacking in that situation"
1 Hector Carrasco Card Pitcher Later with Marlins and Reds
2 Robert Carrillo Cards Infielder
1 Jesus Carrion Card Catcher
4 Charley Carter Cards Infield
You can call him 1998 New York-Penn League Slugging, Doubles, and Extra Base Hits Leader--Just don't call him Sergeant
1 Albert Cartwright Card Second Base
Second baseman from Nassau, The Bahamas played at Greeneville in 2007
6 Billy Paul Carver Cards Catcher
Ever see a card from the '88 South Atlantic League All Star set?
3 Earl Cash Cards Pitcher
Here's an article I found on Cash written during his tenure with the '85 Osceola Astros
4 Vinny Castilla Cards Third Base
Free agent that the Hun stumbled across in midseason was a key to the 2001 Central crown, and became known among those in the know as "The Mexican Mullet." Hit three homers (and was robbed of a fourth) in the first game of the doubleheader vs. the Pirates July 28, 2001
1 Braulio Castillo Card Outfield Journeyman spent a year in Tucson
2 Guillermo Castro Cards Pitcher
Summered in Daytona Beach '82 & '83; was 6 - 7 with a fine 2.49 in 1982.
19 Ramon Castro Cards Catcher
First high schooler out of Puerto Rico to be a number one draft pick; Later dealt for Makarewicz and Jay Powell. Status as Marlins' catcher of the future up in the air with the August 2003 rape charges . . . .and settled after he bailed on them sometime during the 2004 season.
2 Joseph Cathey Cards Infield
1 Nick Cavanagh Card Pitcher
Righthander from Redlands, CA pitched two years for the independent Frontier League Chillicothe Paints before being signed by the Astros in August of 2006. Assigned to Lexington, he moved up to Salem in 2007.
3 Eric Cavers Cards Pitcher
9 for 45 as the backup catcher for the 2004 Greeneville Astros--and much the same role for the 2005 Tri-City and 2006 Lexington squads

ANDUJAR CEDEÑO Cards

Shortstop

Hit for cycle 8/25/92 vs Cards RIP
I never had a problem with
Cedeño--remember you don't get off the island if you don't swing-- but go here for a dissenting opinion
57 CESAR CEDEÑO Cards
Outfield

1st 20-50 Guy: 20 HR, 50 Stolen Bases-
Hit for the cycle twice
4 Ed Cedeño Cards 2nd Base Andujar's brother
2 Ramon Cedeño Cards Outfield
35 Roger Cedeño Cards
Outfield

Made the Hampton trade all that more difficult to live with--Glad he's gone. And now the Mets fans aren't so happy with him, either
7 Henri Centeño Cards 2nd Base Got as high as AA Jackson in '95
2 Jose Centeño Cards Pitcher
1 Mike Cerame Card Trainer
1 Mike Cerefin Card Pitcher 85 Osceola Team; also in the '84 Daytona Team issue set that I do not have -- yet
1 Leandro Cespedes Card Pitcher
Led the 2007 Greeneville Astros in ERA and WHIP
1 Robinson Cespedes Card Outfield
The rhythmically-named Mr. Cespedes made his organizational debut with the 2002 Tri-City Valley Cats, for whom he was named team MVP
1 Al Chambers Card ?
The '87 ProCards Columbus Astros # 841 mysteriously does not give a position for Mr. Chambers
4 Scott Chapman Cards Catcher
1997 Auburn Doubleday team MVP and NY-Penn League All-Star was also '99 Midwest League Top Prospect
5 Frank Charles Cards
Catcher

I watched on TV as he struck out in his first MLB at bat
2 Joe Charno Cards Catcher
4 Arnie Chavera Cards Catcher
Best year was for the 1998 Kissimmee Cobras, for whom he hit .301 in 84 games, with 50 RBI
32 Raul Chavez Cards
Catcher

First minor league card appearance was in 1991, with the Burlington Astros. Traded with Dave Veres to the Expos for Sean Berry on December 20, 1995, and played 18 major league games before returning to the organization as a free agent signee January 5, 2000. By 2005, it was generally reckoned that Chavez, as the backup to Ausmus, threw runners out better than Brad himself.

4 Steven Checksfield Cards Outfield
1 Brad Chedister Card Pitcher
37th Round Draft pick had a 10.20 ERA for the 2004 Greeneville Astros
1 Bruce Chen Card Pitcher
Picked up by the major league club and released within a space of about one month in early 2003
10 Rocky Childress Cards
Pitcher

Was 1- 2 with a fine 2.98 ERA in 32 appearances for the '87 'Stros. In'88 he struck out 24 in 23 innings, but had a 6.17 ERA, and that was all for Rocky.
1 Rich Chiles Card
Outfield

Number two pick in the June '68 Draft made his major league debut April 20 of '71, and played in 67 games. But '72 found him out of favor; by November, he had been traded with some other guy named to the Mets for Tommie Agee. At least we've got his 72 Topps # 56. The Astros' Media guide incorrectly states that he played with the 'Stros through'76.
2 Joel Chimelis Cards Coach
Hitting Coach at Short A Tri-City in 2006 and 2007, and coached a batting champ in Jordan Parraz.
1 Bobby Chouinard Card Pitcher
Five-year major league veteran was signed to play at New Orleans for 2004, and he went 3 - 4 with a 5.73
1 Clay Christiansen Card Pitcher Related to Jason?
4 Gary Christopherson Cards 3rd Base Burlington in '91 and Osceola in '92
1 Steve Christmas Card Catcher '83 Toros
2 Al Cicotte Cards
Pitcher

Grand nephew of Black Sock Eddie
1 Eduin Ciriaco Card Coach
Lefthander from Cabarete, Dominican Republic pitched in 17 games for the '07 Greeneville Astrosz.
19 Jim Clancy Cards
Relief Pitcher

The guy who was SUPPOSED to take the departing Nolan Ryan's spot in the rotation for the '89 season; instead, was the starter 8/3 of that year when the Reds torched the 'Stros for 14 first-innning runs, and 16 1st inning hits. Only 7 runs were charged to Clancy, though, let's give credit to Bob Forsch, as well--there's plenty to go around.
1 Stubby Clapp Card Coach
Canadian who made the majors with the Cardinals in 2001 began as hitting coach at Greeneville in 2007
2 Chris Clark Cards Catcher
15th Round Pick in 2004 began at Tri-City and hit .256; spent all of 2005 at Single A Lexington
5 Dave Clark Cards
Outfield/Manager

At last, I have five. Utility player who hit .206 in 93 games for the '98 Astros was named manager of the new Corpus Christi affilite in 2005--then led the team to a Texas League title in 2006.
1 Leroy Clark Card Pitcher
4 - 3 with a 3.90 for the 1975 Covington Astros and 0 - 0 with a 6.00 for the 1976 Dubuque Packers

5 Terry Clark Cards
Pitcher

10 Koby Clemens Cards 3rd Base
8th Round Pick in 2005 deflated talk of nepotism by slugging .477 with a .398 OBP in his first season at Greeneville. First professional homer was a grand slam. A hand injury in 2006 while playing for Lexington kept Koby from getting up a full head of steam--or did he just reach his ceiling? Repeated at Lexington in '07, and raised his OPS to .756 while leading the team in homers with 15--but he also struck out 122 times.
274 Roger Clemens Cards
Pitcher

UT graduate was already headed for the Hall of Fame when he decided to pitch a season for his quasi-hometown 'Stros. Won his first seven starts as an Astro, and was elected to start the 2004 All-Star Game held at Minute Maid Park. But Clemens got shelled during the All-Star game, and lost Game 7 of the 2004 NLCS, so he decided to come back and try again in 2005--when he improved his ERA to the point where he led the league, and won a playoff game in relief. But Roger was not happy with the playoffless Astros in 2006, and he returned to the Yankees for 2007, for whom he was somewhat underwhelming.
2 Wes Clements Cards Infield
Perhaps the best player in the early 80's farm system never to get a major league at bat?

2 Donn Clendenon Cards 1st Base
Middling infielder copped an attitude in '69 when he failed to report after trade from Expos; Clendenon was returned, and the teams scrambled to make a bad trade for the Astros even worse. Never played an inning in Houston, yet somehow, the people at Topps came up with the 1969 Topps # 208 , and the people at Milton Bradley followed suit. Clendenon unfortunately had the last laugh when he was named 1969 World Series MVP for the Mets, a team he evidently found more to his liking.
1 Bill Clinton Card President of the United States 93 Triple Play # 32
2 John Cloherty Cards Catcher/Pitcher
That's right: Caught for the '76 Dubuque Packers and pitched for the '77 Cocoa Astros

4 Bob Cluck Cards Coach/Manager Been there done that

CARDS I HAVE PLAYER POSITION REMARKS
3 Ryan Coe Cards Catcher/Infield
'96 Midwest League All-Star stole one base in 1995 for the River Bandits, and evidently he was real happy about it.
1 Ivanon Coffie Card Catcher/Infield
Cup of, um, coffee with the 2003 Baltimore Orioles and the lowest batting average of any regulars for the 2004 Round Rock Express.
2 Kevin Coffman Cards Pitcher
1 Nate Colbert Card
1st Base

Briefly-Astro and honored for that in the 1967 Team Issue 25, Colbert would go Stan Musial-type nuts five years later as a member of the Padres, when he would hit 5 homers with 13 RBI's and seven runs scored in an August 1 doubleheader vs. the Braves.
1 Rick Colbert Card Catcher '85 Cramer Tucson Toros
9 Eric Cole Cards 3rd Base/Outfield Nine-year organizational veteran went three for four with 2 stolen bases in Eric Ireland's perfect game, and had two hits in Brian Powell's no-hitter for the Zephyrs in 2001. Finished the Astros phase of his career in 2003 with the Round Rock Express
2 Mike Collar Card Pitcher
Righthander led all 2003 Tri-City Valleycats in saves but trailed all 2004 Lexington Legends in earned runs allowed
3 Terry Collins Cards Manager Um, fiery, manager came up just short three times in Houston, then was a complete failure in Anaheim. Maybe Terry should've stayed in Buffalo
9 Carlo Colombino Cards Infield
'86 SAL Batting Champ and '88 Southern League All-Star;
Identified as Chris on his '90 Star Osceola Astros # 5
10 Dennis Colon Cards Infield
Played three years at Double A Jackson, drove in 50+ runs for an Astros affiliate 4 times, and spelled Phillips at first the night JR Phillips hit four home runs.
1 Bob Coluccio Card Outfield '78 Charleston Charlies; traded in June of that year to St. Louis for Frank Riccelli, who, unlike Coluccio, actually played in the majors for Houston
1 Jack Compton Card Outfield
2 Gene Confreda Cards Trainer
20 Brooks Conrad Cards 2nd Base
A technicality helped Conrad break up a no-hitter. Conrad would go on to be named the 2004 Round Rock Express team MVP, and 2005 saw his first promotion to AAA. Was placed on the 40-Man roster for the first time after the 2006 season, when he led the PCL in extra base hits with 79; perhaps his well-deserved major league debut still awaits.
1 John Cook Card Catcher '96 Doubledays
2 Mitch Cook Cards Pitcher

'86 and '87 Columbus Astros

2 Ron Cook Cards
Pitcher

Pitched in 45 games between '70 and '71 for Houston with a neat 4.00 ERA
His cards--from the sublime to the ridiculous
3 Mike Coolbaugh Cards Catcher
Veteran of 44 games with the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals hit .295 with 30 home runs for the 2004 New Orleans Zephyrs. 2005 saw him tie for the organizational lead in RBI with Morgan Ensberg while being named to the AAA All Star squad.

Tragically killed on July 22, 2007, when a line drive hit him in the head while coaching third for the AA Tulsa Drillers

5 Dan Coombs Cards
Relief Pitcher

Actually pitched in a few games for the Colts, kicked around at Amarillo and Oklahoma City for a few years, then became a dependable reliever for the 'Stros in the late '60's
2 CECIL COOPER Card
Manager

Phil Garner's bench coach took the reins after Garner and GM Tim Purpura were fired in late August of 2007
Houston Astros logo, 2000 -
22 Gary Cooper Cards
3rd Base

High Noon for this AAAA(too good for AAA; not good enough for the NL) guy was his '91 AAA All Star selection
2 James Cooper Cards Outfield
Grambling graduate hit .232 for the 2004 Tri-City ValleyCats and .262 for the 2005 version
1 Neal Cooper Card Pitcher
After being traded from the Phillies organization, went 7 - 7 for the '76 Dubuque Packers with a 5.67 ERA, then lost two games, winning none, for the 1977 Columbus Astros
1 Paul Cooper Card Outfield
After hitting .228 with the 1977 Sarasota Gulf Coast squad, improved to .269 with 26 RBIs for the 1978 Daytona Beach Astros
1 Mitch Coplon Card Pitcher
'82 Daytona Beach Astros
2 Jason Corapci Card Pitcher
Cal State Fullerton grad played one game for the 2003 Martinsville Astros and 26 for the 2004 Greeneville Astros
1 Mike Corominas Card Pitcher
1 Craig Corrado Card First Base
14th round pick in the June 2007 draft committed 29 errors, but also led the club in stolen bases
2 Jorge Correa Cards Pitcher
Correa went 1 - 0 with a 20.65 in six games for the 1992 Auburn Astros. Think about that for a second. On the major league level, for example, only Dean Wilkins in the entire history of the Houston National League franchise, had a career ERA above even 10.00 and still managed to maintain a winning record. He was 2 - 1 with an 11.25 in 1991. Although now that I look further, I see that JR Richard did go 1 - 0 with a 13.50 for the '72 squad. . . .
3 Chris Correnti Cards Trainer '90 in Osceola and '91 and '92 at Burlington
5
