Charles Murray

Meet The Bulls

CHARLIE MURRAY -- This fleet-footed 22-year-old outfielder joined the Bulls in late May.
. . The 6', 180-pound, left-hand hitting flyhawk gave the Bulls a needed jolt when he joined the club. . . .Charlie was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and still makes his home there. . . . His baseball background is one of the most unusual on the club . . . . Charlie never
played Little League or sandlot baseball and never played in an organized game until his senior year at Fremont High in LA . . . . And from the time he picked up a bat he looked like a natural. . . . His average that year was .417. . . . Bobby Maddox (who signed Vada Pinson, Frank Robinson, Curt Flood and others) signed him on the basis of raw
ability in 1962. . . . His rookie year he played for the Modesto Colts in the California League and then went to Moultrie, Ga., in 1963. . . .Charlie finally began to realize his potential under the present Bull skipper, Chuck Churn, when Chuck was managing Modesto in 1964. . . . Charlie only hit .263 but belted 39 home runs and drove in the fantastic total of 139 runs in 140 games. . . . In 1965 he divided his time between Amarillo of the Texas League, and Durham. . . . Chuck Churn has stated Charlie has all the tools--all he needs is time to get them together. . . . Like most ballplayers Charlie has a distaste for spring training but enjoys playing winning baseball. . . . Played winter ball in California in 1962. . . . Baseball is his life. . . . Just relaxes in the offseason.
