Son of former Toronto Blue Jay Garth Iorg was a first round pick in 2005 and led the Greeneville Astros that summer in RBI, and finished second in slugging. Followed up in 2006 by leading the Lexington Legends in total bases and by being named Lexington MVP. 2007 at Salem was shortened by an elbow injury, but he DID slug .512 and OPS .863

Owner of the only nine-inning perfect game in organization history (although Oscar Zamora did pitch a seven-inning version). His effort for the Florida State League Kissimmee Cobras June 24, 1999 vs. the St. Petersburg Devil Rays was also only the fourth perfect game in FSL history. Ireland was lost the following year, however, to the A's as a rule five selection, and there, he languished, I believe, until being reacquired by the Astros late in 2002. Though to be fair, given Houston's problems with the major league starting rotation early in 2003, it didn't look like anyone in the 'Stros chain was rushing to promote Ireland.

Highway robbery my friends: The Astros traded clutch NLCS guy Dave Bergman and future NLCS MVP Jeff Leonard to the Giants for Ivie on 4/20/81. Ivie thereupon gave Houston a grand total of 19 games for the rest of '81. "Exhaustion" says the back of his 1982 Donruss # 396.

Early double play partner of Joe Morgan led the 1964 Texas League in singles, then hit three inside the park homers for the '66 Houston club. But Sonny's days in Houston were numbered. His trade to the Braves on 10/8/67 with Chuck Harrison for Denis Menke and Denny LeMaster was actually a pretty good one: Menke's OBP as an Astro was 50 points higher than what Jackson had managed. Menke would be elected an All-Star twice for Houston while Jackson toiled for Atlanta with no awards.

Hit .205 with 4 homers and 17 RBI's for the '82 Auburn Astros. After a slow start at Asheville in '83, he was traded to the Orioles, who stationed him at Hagerstown in the Carolina league, and watched as he had a pretty good year at two High A stops in '84, and eventually reached the AA level with the 1985 Charlotte O's. Looks to have become fairly successful in the Chicago real estate market post-baseball.

2 - 6 with a 4.44 for the 2004 Greeneville Astros. Back in the Appy League for 2005, James led the G-vile Astros in innings pitched while striking out twice as many as he walked. 9 - 2 with a 1.98 and a Carolina League All-Star for the Avalanche in 2007

Johnson & Wolff and the back of James' 1988 Best Columbus Astros # 26 disagree as to whether James was in fact an FSL all-star for his work at Osceola in 1987, J&W saying no, and Best saying yes. But what's not in dispute is that his .319 BA was second in the league that year and that his 72 runs scored for that team weren't bad, either.

10/13/77 - Outfielder pictured in the '73 Cedar Rapids and '75 Iowa TCMA sets spent seven years in the Astro system before being traded to the Cubs for Keith Drumright. Javier, who had played briefly with Houston in 1976, never got back to the majors with the Cubs, and was left to finish his career with Tabasco of the Mexican League.

Hotshit prospect gone bust: Once considered to have had the inside track to the mound at Yankee Stadium, Jean couldn't even cut the mustard at AAA Tucson in '94.

Seventh-round pick in the June '88 draft hit .292 in 63 games for the '89 Osceola squad, and played at AA in '90 with the Columbus Mudcats and '91 with the Jackson Generals

Righthander and graduate of Baylor was acquired for Jason Hirsh, Taylor Buchholz and Willy Taveras in December of '06. What the Astros got was an injured soft-tosser who along the way managed to post a -11 Game Score, one of only nine starting performances that bad or worse in the previous 50 years. Signed with Texas for '08 and good riddance.

MVP of the 2001 College World Series for the University of Miami Hurricanes--and subsequent fifth-round pick of the 'Stros--had actually been drafted 24th by the 'Stros out of high school as well. Always at a very high level with the outfield defense, a similarly high strikeout rate throughout his minor league career prevented a more rapid rise. On September 4, 2006, became the third Astro in history after Jose Sosa and Dave Matranga to homer in his first major league at bat. Still, released during Spring 2007.

After a year in the Pioneer League with the Butte City Copper Kings in 1981, Ryan took a year off, then was signed as a free agent by the Astros and placed at single A Asheville for 1983. By his final year in 1987, had gotten as high as AAA Tucson. Currently a member of the US Golf Association and competed in the State Team championships in 1999.

Number one pick of the 'Stros (and number 19 overall) in the June '96 draft didn't pitch in '96 then was 8 - 9 with a 3.07 for the '97 Kissimmee Cobras. On December 16 of that year, became the player to be named later in the deal that nabbed Moises Alou for Houston. Florida placed him at AA Portland, where he was 5 - 14 with a 4.62, then shipped him off to the Yankees in the deal that netted the Marlins FIU graduate Mike Lowell. Lowell made the NL All Star team in 2002; Johnson still languishes in the high minors as of 2004.

Chris C Jones began playing minor league ball in 1984 and finally made the majors with the Reds in 1991. Signed as a free agent by the 'Stros for 1992, he got into 54 games as a pinch-hitter and hit .190. The Astros let him go, but he ended up playing 548 games in the majors, primarilly with the mid-nineties Mets.

Chris D. Jones spent eight years in the Astros system and was pictured in each of the Tucson Toros sets between '82 and '85. His best year was probably '81, when he hit .320 with 65 RBI for the Columbus AA squad, and he did see action for the big club in '85, when he appeared in 31 games, accumulating 5 hits in 25 at bats.

Back when it looked like Dwight Gooden would be a Hall-of-Famer, it was often pointed out that Jones had been drafted (by the Padres) ahead of Gooden in the '82 amateur draft. After Gooden began to unravel, then flamed out on cocaine, you heard that stuff less. But Gooden did win 194 major league games to Jones' 43, and the statement is still true. Anyway, Jones pitched for the 'Stros in '91 and '92, and managed 10 wins vs. 6 losses in '92.

Jones hit .256 with 2 homers and 12 RBI for the 1973 Rookie League Covington Astros, then hit .190 with 3 homers and 20 RBI for the 1974 Cedar Rapids squad, for whom he made his only card appearance. Released by the Astros at the end of '74, he played one more year for the Northwest League Boise A's.

Began his career at Sarasota in 1978, and worked his way up through the minors (making six card appearances at Columbus and Tucson), until finally being called by the big club to serve as assistant trainer in 1994. He has assisted Head Trainer Dave Labossiere ever since.

After having participated in a mind-numbing nine double plays as a catcher in the 1969 Florida State League, and being named the Arkansas Travelers' "most popular player" in 1971, Jutze was acquired by the 'Stros on 11/28/72 with Milt Ramirez (?) from the Cards for ex-hot-prospects Ray Busse and Bobby Fenwick. After not exactly setting the world on fire backing up Johnny Edwards in '73, was an American Association All-Star in '74 for the Denver Bears when he hit .321. Dropped back in Houston in 1975, he backed up Milt May in 1975 and Ed Herrmann in 1976, hitting .226 and .152. Jutze was traded to the new Seattle Mariner club on January 12, 1977 for minor leaguer Alan Griffin.
