Right-handed reliever was used by Houston in '83, '85, '87 and '88. Gave up 9 home runs in 56 innings in '85, but still somehow kept the ERA to a respectable 3.36. Had a 5.00 + ERA at both Tucson and Houston in '88. What happened, Jeff? Owner of a lifetime .029 batting average in the majors.

First and only major league start (as well as third and last major league appearance) came in the last game of the season October 3, 1990. Gave up only one hit (a sixth-inning double to Ron Oester) and no runs. Was removed after the sixth with the Astros leading 2 - 0. Then Juan Agosto betrayed Hennis by giving up two, thus setting up Dave Smith for his 53rd and final major league win. Hennis was left with a 0.00 ERA in 9-2/3 innings for his major league career. A little like Cameron Drew in that you gotta wonder whatever happened to Hennis. I mean, he spent the following year at Tucson, but the '91 Astros--young, talented, and a certainty to finish last--couldn't give Hennis a shot? And why wasn't he back for '92? Oh well, at least Hennis became part of a board game.

| Traded with RHP Manuel Barrios and (eventually) RHP Mark Johnson to the Florida Marlins for OF Moises Alou on November 11, 1997. Henriquez had pitched in four games with a 4.50 ERA before the trade, and pitched in 15 games with an 8.55 for the Marlins in '98. I know Dave Dombrowski kinda had his hands tied behind his back, but the thing is, Oscar didn't even have good numbers in the minors . . .

| Inside the Park HR (!) vs Pirates 5/8/92. I will always remember a game Henry pitched April 19, 1992 vs. the Padres at home. Andy Benes (and he was real good, back then--he'd end the year with a 3.35 ERA) started for the Pads, and threw nine innings of shutout ball. But here's the thing: so did Henry. No-one then (or now) would put Butch Henry in the class of Andy Benes, but on that day, Henry would not yield. Benes gave up five hits and walked one, while Henry gave up seven hits and walked none. I seem to remember Henry being in trouble all day long, but he always worked out of it. The game went into extras tied at 0. Finally both managers pinch hit for their starters, and Xavier Hernandez ended up getting the decision over Rich Rodriguez as the Astros won 1 - 0 in 11. Henry would pitch in the majors til '99, but I would think that game was his finest hour.

Actually rather effective at times, especially during the 1998 season, when he picked up eight wins and had a 3.04 ERA, Henry had become, by the time was traded to the Giants for triple-A caliber pitcher Scott Linebrink in July of 2000, notable almost exclusively for his firestarting properties.

| Long minor league career began in the Gulf Coast league at Sarasota in 1979. Spent three years at Daytona Beach, including the '81 FSL championship year, and '83, when Hernandez was 10 - 3 with a 2.99 in 102.0 innings. After two and a half years at Tucson, Houston brought him up in June of 1986; he pitched in 9 games with a 2-3 record and a 3.90 ERA. In '87 he split time again between the PCL and the NL, but the major league ERA ballooned to 5.40. '88 was spent exclusively at Tucson, and at the end of the year he was signed as a minor-league free agent by the Mets. He pitched one inning for New York in 1989 . . .and there the trail ends. That's his story, and this is his one major-league card.

| Was an infielder when he played for the '78 Daytona squad, then got traded to Toronto in November of '78 with JJ Cannon and Mark Lemongello for Alan Ashby. Mostly played at AAA Syracuse and AA Knoxville, though he got 9 at bats for Toronto in '79 and '82. No hits, but did score a run. The Astros must've signed him back as a minor league free agent in the offseason after 1984, and he played outfield for the '85 Tucson Toros and Columbus Astros.

| "The Iceman" ended an eight-year minor league career with the Columbus Astros in 1989, then began a career as pitching coach that has seen stops at Burlington, Asheville, Jackson, and New Orleans. You had to feel good for Mr. Hickey on July 14, 2004, when he was promoted from AAA New Orleans to replace the fired Bert Hooton as pitching coach of the major league club. But when he was dismissed after the 2006 season, not so much.
