First and only major league start (as well as third and last major league appearance) came in the last game of the season October 3, 1990. Gave up only one hit (a sixth-inning double to Ron Oester) and no runs. Was removed after the sixth with the Astros leading 2 - 0. Then Juan Agosto betrayed Hennis by giving up two, thus setting up Dave Smith for his 53rd and final major league win. Hennis was left with a 0.00 ERA in 9-2/3 innings for his major league career. A little like Cameron Drew in that you gotta wonder whatever happened to Hennis. I mean, he spent the following year at Tucson, but the '91 Astros--young, talented, and a certainty to finish last--couldn't give Hennis a shot? And why wasn't he back for '92? Oh well, at least Hennis became part of a board game.

| Inside the Park HR (!) vs Pirates 5/8/92. I will always remember a game Henry pitched April 19, 1992 vs. the Padres at home. Andy Benes (and he was real good, back then--he'd end the year with a 3.35 ERA) started for the Pads, and threw nine innings of shutout ball. But here's the thing: so did Henry. No-one then (or now) would put Butch Henry in the class of Andy Benes, but on that day, Henry would not yield. Benes gave up five hits and walked one, while Henry gave up seven hits and walked none. I seem to remember Henry being in trouble all day long, but he always worked out of it. The game went into extras tied at 0. Finally both managers pinch hit for their starters, and Xavier Hernandez ended up getting the decision over Rich Rodriguez as the Astros won 1 - 0 in 11. Henry would pitch in the majors til '99, but I would think that game was his finest hour.

Spent three years at Daytona Beach, including the '81 FSL championship year, and '83, when Hernandez was 10 - 3 with a 2.99 in 102.0 innings. After two and a half years at Tucson, Houston brought him up in June of 1986; he pitched in 9 games with a 2-3 record and a 3.90 ERA. In '87 he split time again between the PCL and the NL, but the major league ERA ballooned to 5.40. '88 was spent exclusively at Tucson, and at the end of the year he was signed as a minor-league free agent by the Mets. He pitched one inning for New York in 1989 . . .and there the trail ends. That's his story, and this is his one major-league card.

When this ex-Astro farmhand reached the majors with the Rockies, he would start calling himself 'Trenidad.' Got as high as AAA Tucson with the 'Stros, then had major-league career with nine teams, accumulating 196 hits and 16 home runs between 1994 and 2003. A non-roster invitee for the 2005 Astros, Hubbard did well in Grapefruit League action, but was sent to Round Rock, and later asked for his release after a lackluster start at AAA.

| Fast but straight. His appearance in the 1994 All-Star game after having started the year at AAA Tucson remains one of the most startling success stories in club history. But in the end, what everyone told him in the minors before 1994 was true: he needed a second effective out pitch, especially after his fastball began losing velocity in 1995. His rapid rise, however, produced some really cool cards.

| Dominant minor-league closer for the Giants blew out his arm and was released. The Astros picked him up and after a short stint at Tucson in 1993, he was pretty dominant again for Jackson in 1994 -- 3-0 with 31 saves (out of a possible 33) and a 1.61 ERA were his contributions to the the '94 Texas League Eastern Division champs. In August of '95, the Astros traded him to the Royals for Pat Borders. It was with the Royals that Huisman made his major-league appearances, but by the end of '97, he was let go, and picked up by the Giants again. After a year at AAA Fresno, the Astros got him, and had him pitch two years at New Orleans. By then a set-up guy, he was 3-1 with a 3.32 for New Orleans in '99, and 3 - 5 with a 3.48 for the 2000 Zephyrs |

Acquired in December of '75, he was gone by the end of the first week of June after having spent a couple months at AAA Memphis. In the Astros organization for six months, he never played a game with Houston, yet was captured on his 1976 SSPC # 373.

| 22nd-round pick in the 2001 draft hit .225 at Martinsville in 2001 but was brought back for 2002. Since, he has been remarkably consistent averagewise: he hit .265 in 2002, .269 for Lexington in '03, and .269 for Lexington in '04. Starting off for Salem in '05 didn't go so well: demoted to Lexington, Humphries returned to form and hit .270 for the '05 Legends.

| Second pick in the 1985 draft broke in with that year's Sarasota (Gulf Coast) Astros, and in a career within the Astro minor league system that spanned seven years, twice stole 50 bases in a season, but only once hit over .250. That once was in 1987 on a pretty darned good Asheville Tourists team.
Hunter was traded to the Mets sometime in 1991 off of the Jackson AA roster, and returned to Mississippi in 1997 to serve as hitting coach for the Generals. | |
